9 Year Old Inspiration

For a 9 year old, Mia (on the right) is an inspiring and brave little girl.
Her mother contacted me about a drawing for Mia and told me a story that I would probably never forget.

Mia has a best friend (pictured on the left) who has been diagnosed with leukemia.  That means she will have chemotherapy, which results in hair loss.  For girls, we can be attached and sometimes defined by our hair.  It's like an accessory or security that most women find it hard to part from.  But for Mia, being there for a friend through a tough time is worth more than anything else.

So what did Mia do?   She told her best friend that she would shave her hair, so that her best friend didn't have to battle this alone.  Now, I don't know how many people are brave enough to do this for a friend, let alone a 9 year old, but that's inspiring.

The drawing:  I wanted to draw a portrait of them with their hair, because it signifies that they have triumphed over the battle and have come out as winners.  The headbands were worn when they didn't have hair, so I drew those to signify the bond that they had when they went through a tough time.

So no matter what you do in life - Remember that people will never forget the way you moved them, or made them feel.  Hopefully I did this story justice.
